Zigeuners van de Cauberg plot
Erie Client-Hagenbeck opened his zoo and dressage school in 1947 on the Valkenburgse Cauberg, where the spa town of Thermae 2000 is now located. Client's Zoo grew into the top tourist attraction of post-war Valkenburg. Customer-Hagenbeck really made a name for himself with his dressage school. Adventurers from all over Europe and some local youths were trained in what has been called the most dangerous profession in the world, animal trainer. Once trained, the tamers with their predators were hired out to the major international circuses. The tamers of Client-Hagenbeck grew into the absolute world top and worked for circuses and film studios all over the world. They could be seen in films such as Quo Vadis, Samson and Delilah and Fritz Lang's Das Indische Grabmal. The school finally closed its doors in 1971. Patrick Bisschops shows how the gods of the past often live a withdrawn and marginal existence today.
