Women for Sale plot

Faced with extreme poverty in their own country after the collapse of the Soviet Union, many young women see prostitution as their only option to support themselves or their families. They are usually ordinary young women, sometimes mothers, who do not always know what to expect. Some do it out of a drive for self-determination, others for the adventure and the thrill, but the main motivation for almost every one of them is the money they earn from it, or that they have been presented to them by traffickers or pimps. Reality is usually not so pretty. The women are often exploited and mistreated, or end up behind bars. Director Nili Tal wonders why the government is failing to ensure the well-being of these women.
