Women at the Wheel plot
Xian is a medium-sized place in China. The streets of Xian look like a green sea. Rows of taxis carry passengers back and forth. A third of taxi drivers are women and that share is increasing. High unemployment and poor working conditions make it difficult to earn a living in Xian. The women in this documentary mostly started driving because they couldn't find another job. Taxi driver in Xian is a far from ideal profession. The strict rules and long working days make it difficult. Filmmaker Fang Yu shows the lives of four women who drive a taxi.
