Veselka: The Rainbow on the Corner at the Center of the World plot

This film tells the story of the beloved New York City Ukrainian restaurant Veselka and its father and son, Tom and Jason Birchard. When Jason graduates from college with no vision for his future, Tom takes him into the family business. Jason learns that Tom’s dedication to Veselka produces delicious food that pleases a motley crew of neighbors and newcomers, but that leaves little time for Tom to be a “dad” at work. In 2020, Jason takes over Veselka from his reluctantly retiring father. He has big shoes to fill, but Jason’s greatest challenge becomes the war in Ukraine. He is unexpectedly thrust into the role of surrogate father to support his Ukrainian co-workers affected by the war.
