"The greatest enemy in the whole country is and remains the informant". This proverb is from the mother of writer Paul Gratzik and has always stayed with him; from his humble beginnings in the 1970s to his fame as a representative of the great East German literary world. Yet for twenty years he was an unofficial employee of the East German state security service, writing reports about his friends and his fans, such as Heiner Müller, Steffie Spira and Ernstgeorg Hering. At the beginning of the 1980s, Gratzik unmasks himself and in turn becomes an object of the Stasi surveillance...
