Tussen Hemel en Aarde plot
As a child, the Uzbek circus artists Achat and Tursun Ali exchanged their native village for a life in the circus. They learned the trade together, specialized in juggling with weights and each started their own family circus. Today they are around sixty and both still perform on the streets of Uzbekistan. Much to their regret, however, they have fundamentally disagreed for some time - not on circus matters, but on politics. Unlike his childhood friend, Achat continues to take on the authorities as a human rights activist. He takes the risks for granted, despite the fact that the secret service once locked him up for two years and put his wife and children on the street. "How can I only be involved with the circus when I see what's happening around me?"
