Tsvet Natsii plot
Journalist Leonid Parfyonov traces the story of Russian photographer and inventor Sergey Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorsky, a pioneer of color photography in early twentieth-century Russia. Parfyonov discusses Prokudin-Gorsky's works, which are now the most notable document of the pre-Soviet Russian Empire. While in other countries there is still plenty of footage from a century ago or from the nineteenth century, much has been lost or destroyed in Russia. Prokudin-Gorsky's material offers a glimpse into a Russia that no longer exists and raises questions about the national identity of its people.
