Triegel Trifft Cranach - Malen im Widerstreit der Zeiten plot

Michael Triegel, a painter who emulates the old masters rather than the modern style of his Leipzig colleagues, received a unique commission in 2020: to repaint the lost central panel of the altar in Naumburg Cathedral. Five centuries earlier, the original work by Lucas Cranach the Elder was destroyed during an iconoclasm. Because no depiction of the Virgin and Child has survived, Triegel had to create a "new old" painting from scratch. His quest for a balance between tradition and his own vision forms the heart of this story.
