Trek Nation plot

Gene Roddenberry, creator of Star Trek, aka "The Great Bird of the Galaxy" passed away in 1991. His son Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry, Jr. was only 17 years old at the time. Trek Nation is a feature-length film that chronicles Rod's trek across America to understand who his father was through the touchstones Gene left behind: his friends, his family, his work, and his influence. Includes conversations with actors, fans, NASA personnel, entertainment industry leaders and other prominent figures.

Although the conventional script and visual style are reminiscent of a DVD extra, this is a fine introduction to the unique universe of 'Star Trek'. Rod Roddenberry, the son of creator Gene Roddenberry, repeats a bit too often that he only really got to know his father (who died when Rod was 17) through his interactions with fans. Moreover, this documentary focuses mainly on the people who were directly involved with the show and not on the variety of fans (who were central to Trekkies (1997)). The only notable fragment concerns the fan who prevented Nichelle Nichols (Cpt. Uhura) from leaving the television series after season 1.
