Treffpunkt Erasmus plot
Two young Wehrmacht soldiers in the Third Reich, Werner Klemke and his comrade John Gerhardt, secretly rescue Jews from deportation, including members of the Perlstein family, who provided them with false papers. Gerhardt eventually loses his life in the war, but Klemke survives and returns to his hometown of Berlin, where he develops a career as a book illustrator and graphic artist. The history of these two soldiers only came to light in 2011, when the archive of the Jewish community in Bussum, Netherlands, discovered the correspondence between the two friends. Director Annet Betsalel shows these written conversations in word and image in her documentary 'Treffpunkt Erasmus'.
