Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable plot
This filmed journey along the waters off East Africa tells the story behind artist Damien Hirst's vast exhibition of marine treasures. In the Indian Ocean off the coast of the ancient trading city of Azania, the wreckage of a ship, the Apistos, was found that was wrecked sometime in the first century. The ship was carrying the treasures of Cif Amotan II, a wealthy freed slave who had collected artifacts and objects from all over the world to exhibit in a separate temple. But the ship sank and the objects disappeared on the seabed for two thousand years. The load was retrieved with great difficulty.
