The White Darkness plot

Voodoo originated as a typically indigenous way of escaping the murderous oppression of the settlers by creating a world and belief system that the European and American occupiers had no access to. The real power in Haiti, according to Stanley, lies not with the military or political leaders but with the secret voodoo communities, such as Bizango and Makanda, around which a complex of myths has been built, surrounded by cannibalism, mutations and zombies. In 2002, on behalf of the BBC, South African filmmaker Richard Stanley traveled to impoverished and always troubled Haiti. He received a film crew and a bag of money from England.
