An exhaustive, practically all-encompassing documentary about the masterful science fiction/horror film The Thing by John Carpenter. Director Ian Nathan employs more or less the same approach as with his earlier Aliens Expanded and pulls out all the stops to make something beautiful out of it. Even Matthijs van Heijningen Jr., who directed the 2011 prequel, speaks at length. It is a shame that makeup legend Rob Bottin isn't included, but then again, he never is. Aside from that, everyone still alive shows up to provide us with great anecdotes. At nearly five hours running time, it is of course on the ridiculously long side—perhaps this type of project works better as a series—but for fans of the film (and who isn't one?), it is a real treat.
