The Perfect Neighbor plot

In June 2023, a white woman named Susan Lorincz, in a typical suburb of Marion County, Florida, fired a gun through her front door, killing her neighbor, Ajike Owens, a Black mother of four. Lorincz claimed she felt threatened and defended herself by invoking the state's Stand Your Ground law. In reality, as Geeta Gandbhir meticulously and with mounting anxiety documents in her film, the murder was the culmination of months of escalating conflict between Lorincz and her neighbors, whom she treated as unwanted intruders in her space.

There are many more docu's like this on investigation discovery (ID), there is a series Fear thy neighbour with 91 episodes which are also mostly recorded with a bodycam.

Of course, I don't know the whole story, but I find this documentary rather one-sided! Of course, this woman deserves serious punishment, and she did something terrible.

But you see what a neighborhood it is, and I think it's incredibly noisy day and night!! You should really live in a neighborhood like that; I think everyone there would go crazy. I, for one, got irritated pretty quickly. You're quickly labeled as grumpy if you're driven mad by the noise and screaming day and night. I also think the police aren't getting off scot-free with their weak interventions... and they're quick to bring up something that clearly has nothing to do with it...

A remarkable documentary with rich footage, which paints a rather one-sided portrait of the lead-up to and aftermath of a tragic shooting. The documentary shows what bullying can lead to. Although Susan Lorincz is more or less portrayed as a racist witch, the images reveal the truth between the lines: Susan lived in a diverse neighborhood and was tormented day and night by unruly neighbors who slowly but surely transformed her quiet neighborhood into the Bronx. The police do respond to calls, but are there for show. They seem more like street workers, in cahoots with the neighbors ("they're just kids").

She's also consistently called "Karen" by the neighbors, which is a racial slur for white women. While she's exhausted and rarely leaves her house, some neighbor bangs on her door to terrorize her inside. Terrified, she grabs her weapons and fires through the door. The rest is history. It's unfortunate that it had to end this way, but I don't think it would be easy to live in that neighborhood. It's clear that Susan Lorincz interpreted the Stand Your Ground law a bit too liberally, although I also get the impression she was punished harshly, so soon after the George Floyd scandal, because the BLM riots and looting were still fresh in their minds.
