The Panama Papers plot
"376 journalists working in 76 countries expose how the rich play hide and keep"
Prime Ministers, presidents, football players, sheikhs and emirs were discredited in early 2016 by revelations from the Panama Papers, leaked documents from legal consultancy firm Mossack Fonseca. It cost several government leaders their jobs. In this documentary, editors of the Süddeutsche Zeitung tell how the case started a year earlier when an anonymous whistleblower offered a huge amount of classified data about large-scale tax evasion. They soon realized the extent of the incriminating information and decided to enlist the help of investigative journalists from all over the world, including those from the Dutch newspapers Trouw and Het Financieele Dagblad, to dig through everything.
