The Mystery of Anthrax Island plot

Anthrax is a rare disease caused by naturally occurring bacteria that can form spores that are deadly to humans and animals. During World War II, government scientists at Porton Down attempted to weaponize anthrax by creating a deadly strain that they then tested on Gruinard Island, an uninhabited remote spot off the coast of Scotland. This proved disastrous for Gruinard and from 1942 people were forbidden to set foot on the island. Signs were posted on the coast and adjacent mainland and Gruinard was nicknamed “the Island of Death” or “Anthrax Island”.
