The Man Who Shot Chinatown: The Life and Work of John A. Alonzo plot

Like many young dreamers before him, young immigrant son John A. Alonzo moves to Hollywood to become an actor. He finds his true calling there, but behind the camera and he becomes one of the first and best cameramen in Hollywood after 1960. Interviews with stars, directors and fellow cameramen show how he broke the fixed film pattern, both on as next to the screen. He overcomes the 'old men' network to become the first Mexican American to be admitted to the 'union of cameramen'. John A. Alonzo also helped develop the energetic documentary technique used in major films from then on, often shouldering the camera himself to get as close and personal as possible with the film's characters.
