The Journey of Monalisa plot

When director Nicole Costa, after seventeen years, reconnects with her old Chilean college friend Iván Ojeda, at the time a talented theater maker and playwright, he appears to have reinvented himself as Monalisa, who now earns her money as a prostitute on the streets of New York. Intrigued by this transformation, she decides to follow Iván Monalisa, who describes herself as a gender-neutral two-spirit, in his/her hard, but also vulnerable life in New York, which is filled with fleeting sexual contacts and an addiction to hard drugs. It turns out that she/he still writes: beautiful, raw texts about (survival) life in New York.
