The Insides of Our Lives plot
The Insides of our Lives is a documentary that combines fiction with real footage and explores the meaning of friendship in a divided world. As both girls grow up, they discover how the drawn border creates an 'us' and 'them', how watchtowers evoke a sense of an immense prison and how everyone is increasingly watching each other. The events lead to a longing for a life beyond the border, for freedom, with far-reaching consequences. Director Misja Pekel compiled the film from thousands of hours of found footage, mainly 8mm amateur films from the sixties and seventies.
