The Great Rift plot
The Great Rift Valley is an extremely impressive system of rifts in eastern Africa. The Great Rift Valley runs from Syria to Mozambique over a total length of about 6400 kilometers. The rift varies in width from thirty to one hundred kilometers and in depth from several hundred to even thousands of meters. In geological terms, such a rift system is called a rift, an area where two tectonic plates move apart, shaping the landscape in spectacular fashion. This series explores the forces that caused the rift and focuses on the landscape and nature.
