The Future of Mud: A Tale of Houses and Lives in Djenne plot

The focus is on a contractor and his family in the city of Djenné, the mud city on the edge of the Sahara. It tells of contemporary building practices, opposing ambitions and the future of the mud city and its relations with the whole world that visits it. Through the story of the bricklayer in Djenné, Komusa Tenapo and his family, this documentary explores an African tradition of mud architecture in Mali. The old building techniques, thick walls with small windows, keep homes cool despite the stifling heat. Traditional building techniques expressed in strikingly beautiful designs have ensured that Djenné is included in the World Heritage list.
