The Beauty Academy of Kabul plot

"After decades of war and the Taliban, the women of Afghanistan need... a makeover?"

Summer 2003. Under the motto 'beauty without borders', six idealistic hairdressers and beauticians from the United States travel to Afghanistan. Sponsored by the US beauty industry, these volunteers, including three Afghan women who fled their country 20 years earlier, are starting a course for women in post-Taliban Kabul to teach them the hottest cutting, coloring and curling techniques. For Afghan women, the training offers the prospect of an important source of income.
