Tea plot
Tea Opera is the brainchild of avant garde composer Tan Dun. In Tea Opera his eastern and western influences come together and the tea is nothing less than the mirror of the human soul. In addition to Tan Dun, librettist Xu Ying and director Pierre Audi elaborate on the symbolic references to ancient Chinese tea ceremonies and their philosophical meanings. While Tan Dun elevates the everyday drink in Tea Opera to high art, symbolism and deep philosophy, director Frank Scheffer takes the viewer through the beauty of the Chinese countryside. It's where Tan Dun and the tea come from. Where tea is harvested and the sunlight dances in the water of a waterfall, where children watch a traditional puppet show and the tea master makes a ceremonial cup of tea.
