Sumé: Mumisitsinerup Nipaa plot
"Greenland's fight for independence began with a rock band"
In the 1970s, the Greenlandic rock band Sumé (translation: where?) released no fewer than three albums, drastically changing the history of the largest island in the world, which was colonized by Denmark for centuries. It is the first time in history that a band from Greenland releases songs in their own native language. An original Northern language of the Inuit, which did not even contain words for "revolution" or "oppression". Sumé inspires the revolution of a new generation towards cultural independence and an own identity with catchy rock beats and politically charged lyrics. The band stirs the Greenlandic culture in the souls of its inhabitants and a national pride is revived. Band members, fans, friends and important Greenlanders reflect in new material on the special selection of archive images collected in this music document.
