Spring Equinox plot
A study of the play of light on a landscape, shot during a spring day, differing in its balance between daylight and darkness. “Spring Equinox” confronts the viewer with a slow, studied perception of the place - to spend time just looking and listening to the landscape. Shot on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada in central California in a day, Benning rejects the postcard-worthy designs of his ascent, demanding a deeper reading by including images of landscapes. The shots are static and calm, but allow a simple grandeur in their silence as birds fly away in unison and cattle pass by.
