Southern Rites plot
Documentary about Georgia's Montgomery County, a year after the racially segregated school parties merged, and during a historic election campaign that could lead to the first African-American sheriff. Photographer Gillian Laub, whose photos first brought the area unwanted notoriety, documents the fallout when a white city dweller is accused of murdering a young black man. The case and the resulting plea agreement and conviction divide the local population.
