Showgirls of Pakistan plot
"Life is a stage."
Death threats are the order of the day for Afreen, Uzma and Reema, three dancers from the Punjab province of Pakistan. Although they have many fans – both in the venues where they perform and online – their livelihood is seen as a disgrace by a majority of Pakistani society. The women are mujra dancers; an age-old but nowadays considered vulgar genre. This documentary follows the women in their turbulent daily lives, but also makes extensive use of live streams, telephone conversations, archive images and other media.
