Born in the 1950s, Genesis P-Orridge broke the rules early on. After changing their name, Genesis began making more subversive art. By the 1970s, they had become iconic in the British avant-garde and punk scene. By placing sexuality, gender and identity at the heart of their art, Genesis became a celebrity, hated by conservatives, but never wavering in their belief: that Control, the imposed constraints of society, must be short-circuited. And it is the job of the artist to make that short-circuit.
