Pavement was one of the most striking American indie bands in the 90s. The quintet around Stephen Malkmus has been back together for a few years now. His first creative project is not a new record, but this metafilm. And no, the plural Pavements is not a typo, because director Perry looks at the band in different ways. He maps out the preparation for their reunion, directs the off-Broadway jukebox musical "Slanted and Enchanted" with Pavement songs, and is working on a classic biopic, entitled "Range Life".

In the early 1990s, Pavements was a sensation in the American underground music scene. The idiosyncratic band, fronted by the idiosyncratic Stephen Malkmus, rebelled against the slick pop and rock music of the time and, to their own surprise, managed to attract a large fan base as a result. Their success story came to an abrupt end. Thirty years later, the original band members reunited for a reunion and a look back at their younger years. Perry's unconventional structure may not be for everyone, but it does justice to Pavements and everything they stood for. A worthy portrait of a remarkable band that fans will naturally enjoy even more.
