Painful Painting plot
Extreme violence plays a central role in the work of the successful Dutch visual artist Ronald Ophuis. His canvases with gruesome scenes of murder and rape often have a considerable size, which makes the impact on the viewer even greater. "Am I capable of these things myself?" is the reaction of those who keep watching, but also: "Why does that man make things like this?" In Painful Painting, the filmmaker tries to answer this last question by questioning the artist and following him during the process of creating a new work. During a trip to Sierra Leone, he speaks with former child soldiers. He shows them his work and they tell what they have experienced.
