Omo Child: The River and the Bush plot
Lale Labuko was born and raised in the Omo Valley among the Kara people. When he, as a 15-year-old, witnesses the murder of a child who according to the elders carries the 'mingi' curse, it makes a huge impression on him. He even learns that he had two older sisters who suffered the same fate. After all, Mingi children are a major threat to the tribe, bringing disease, drought and famine with them. According to tradition, you can recognize them by different characteristics, for example when the upper teeth of a baby first appear and only later the lower teeth.
