Non-Aligned Newsreels: Fragments #2 – New Voices from the Summit plot

During the Cold War, it seemed as if there was no choice but between the capitalist West or the Soviet bloc. Nevertheless, Yugoslav president Tito sought allies among non-Western countries for an alternative political vision. In 1961, at a founding conference in Belgrade that brought together leaders of 25 countries and 17 liberation movements, the Non-Aligned Movement was officially founded. This movement, which spoke out about decolonization, disarmament and racism, is largely absent from Western history books.
