Shimon Peres was an Israeli politician from the Labor Party and Kadima. He was Prime Minister of Israel from 1984 to 1986 and again from 1995 to 1996, and the ninth President of Israel from 2007 to 2014. Peres was born in Poland in 1923 and arrived in Tel Aviv in 1934 with his parents. His political career began in 1959 when he was elected to the Knesset. He sat in parliament for decades. He also held various ministerial posts, including those of Defense and Foreign Affairs, and was party leader for a long time. He won the Nobel Peace Prize.
