Nelson Carrilho I Am a Black Sculptor plot
The Netherlands Antillean sculptor Nelson Carrilho (1953) became known when he made the statue 'Mama Baranka' in 1984, which is located in the Vondelpark in Amsterdam. He made the statue in memory of Kerwin Duinmeijer, the victim of a racist murder. In recent decades, Carrilho has told the story of black people through his sculptures, seeking connection and reconciliation in a divided society.
