Napoleon - Metternich: Der Anfang vom Ende plot
On June 26, 1813, a few months after the failed campaign of the French army to Russia, Klemens von Metternich, the Austrian foreign minister, went to visit Napoleon at his headquarters in Dresden. The defeat by Russia has weakened France and caused concern for the emperor. Von Metternich places Napoleon with his back against the wall and demands that he cooperate in a peace plan. If not, Austria will join the coalition of countries fighting against France.
