"An attempt at the impossible"

In René Margritte's work, an absurd collection of everyday objects appears on the canvas. The leading figure of the Belgian surrealists shows the viewer the phenomena of art, reality, perception and language. The artist's subversive humor is omnipresent, and we can also find it in the silent films he produced together with his friends. Filmmaker Adrian Maben fathoms Magritte's fantastic picture puzzles. He combines images, childhood memories, objects from Margritte's apartment in Brussels, old film fragments and interviews to create a portrait of a unique artist and person.
