On November 20, 2017, 14-year-old Molly Russell took her own life. The investigation into her death consisted of two-hour hearings in which executives from Meta and Pinterest had to account for the images their algorithms shared with Molly. Silver used AI to tell Molly's story from the perspective of the algorithm. With actors, he reconstructs the hearing to confront Molly's friends from that time with what Molly was watching her from behind their backs as well. These conversations are spontaneous, candid, and ideally suited to making this theme discussable among young people; the use of AI gives this a cinematic quality, making it captivating from beginning to end.
