Moge U in Interessante Tijden Leven plot

Personal document from film maker Tan in which she goes in search of the roots of her Indo-Chinese-Western family. She spoke to dozens of family members who live all over the world and tries to find out with them what your (cultural) identity consists of. What does it mean to be Chinese? And most importantly, what does it mean to be Chinese outside of China? The title refers to an ancient Chinese curse that states that it is best to lead a quiet and even life; interesting times are dangerous times. The overseas Chinese to which Tan and her family belong have known nothing but these interesting times.
