Misi met een Missie plot

In this documentary, director Wilma Ligthart follows the royally awarded Surinamese writer Cynthia McLeod, known for 'How expensive was the sugar?', to places that play a role in her life and work; the boat Sweet Merodia, Jodensavanne, her office at home, the presidential palace and the pre-university education in Paramaribo where she was once a Dutch teacher. McLeod talks about the motivations behind her work and about the slavery past. She has dedicated herself to bringing the history of slavery to the wider public through historical novels.
