Making the Boys plot

"Broadway Hollywood Success Betrayal Sex Death Redemption"

Long before Proposition 8 (a referendum in California against so-called same-sex marriage, which was to ensure that marriage was again exclusively reserved for male/female relationships), before the movie 'Milk' or the sitcom 'Will & Grace', before the AIDS epidemic and for the gay pride parades, director William Friedkin's film 'The Boys in the Band' (1970) changed everything. This documentary looks back on the struggle and perseverance to get the play on the stage and then to make a (gay) film based on this piece that would be accessible to a large audience for the first time in history; a milestone in film history.
