Maharadja Burger. Mad Cows, Holy Cows plot
To this day, cattle can be found in India roaming freely on and next to the roads. Eating the flesh of the sacred cow is a repulsive activity for Hindus. For filmmaker Thomas Balmès, this fact formed the basis for his documentary Maharajah Burger. He traveled to Gaushala in India, where Hindus lovingly take care of old and sick cows. There he asked various people for their opinion on the mad cow crisis, the epidemic of the BSE disease, which led to mass hysteria and a collapse of the beef trade a few years ago in Europe. A film about the hamburger as a dubious symbol of social and economic progress.
