Les Trois Disparitions de Soad Hosni plot
Egyptian Soad Hosni was born in 1943 and died by suicide in 2001. Hosni, one of the most celebrated Arab actresses, has starred in 82 feature films. Director Rania Stephan reconstructed her life, exclusively with fragments on VHS of films in which Hosni starred. The film is divided into three acts, a prologue and an epilogue, and tells not only the life story of the versatile film star, but also of Egyptian cinema and society. In the first part we see the actress singing and dancing, and a cheerful gathering of boys, girls and family. In the second part we see Hosni, who in reality had countless relationships, as a desirable woman in sometimes complex relationships. Act three parallels a changing atmosphere in society: there is violence against and oppression of women.
