Land zonder Koning plot
Once 85-year-old Nicolaas Jouwe was the promising young leader of a Papuan nation in the making. Under the inspiring leadership of Dutch teachers, Jouwe trained in the 1950s to become a passionate politician who would lead his people to independence. But it didn't come to that. Papua became a province of Indonesia and Jouwe moved to the Netherlands. Until, quite unexpectedly, in March 2009 the old exile receives an invitation from the President of Indonesia. After 47 years of tireless struggle for the independence of his Papuan people, Nicolaas Jouwe leaves for the land of the former enemy with his two youngest children. The old man would like to go home to his island, which is a seven-hour flight from Jakarta. But before that happens, Jouwe's credentials are thoroughly examined. Is the old leader willing to give up his ideal? And what does he get in return?
