Julia plot

Over a period of ten years, documentary maker and photographer Johanna Jackie Baier follows the transsexual Julia K. through her daily life. Julia, now 30, is an unusual figure: she speaks an old-fashioned German, which has not been used for more than 100 years, makes watercolor painting for relaxation, has a high diploma from secondary education and obtained an art diploma from a Lithuanian art academy. But the Lithuanian-born has been living as a transsexual prostitute in Berlin for ten years now. She has an incredible problem with authority and doesn't want to submit to any social convention. Only God accepts her, although there was something wrong with the sex at birth, for she herself says, Julia is neither male nor female.
