Fryslân twice had the trotter of the year, because horse racing was also held here. And twice it was completely unexpected. When the little Oerterper farmer Wolter Huisman went to trader Boerstra on the Gordyk for a cow, he came home with a horse, Mistral Nora. That horse would become a sensation, win everything and become trotter of the year 1974, trained along the road from Drachten to Oostwâde. About ten years later, Eelke Kruis and Evert Gaastra held a foal at an auction. Foal by Action Skoatter, perhaps the best horse that ever walked in the Netherlands. In any case, it became horse of the year in 1987.
