Island plot
"Life as it ends"
Eastwood spent a year with terminal patients, who gave him their trust and precious time. With the title, he refers to his location, Isle of Wight. But of course this is also a metaphor for the security of a palliative institution, where people withdraw to prepare for the great journey. The ferries depart like spaceships, just as the pictures of mutating cells appear under the microscope as 'planets'.
