In het Huis van Mijn Vader plot
Fatima Jebli Ouazzani herself made the choice not to marry according to Moroccan tradition and had to pay a high price for it: she has not seen or spoken to her father for sixteen years. In this documentary, she examines why Moroccan traditions have been preserved for centuries and are so important. Her search takes her to her grandparents in Morocco, among other places. In sometimes painful, honest conversations with her grandmother, it becomes clear what arranged marriage meant to her family. By confronting Naïma and Hicham, who voluntarily enter into a traditional marriage, Fatima Jebli Ouazzani again questions her choice. According to Moroccan standards, she is no longer worth anything: she is no longer a virgin, has no husband and no children. But in the end she manages to free herself from her father's approval.
