How to Smell a Rose: A Visit with Ricky Leacock at His Farm in Normandy plot

Documentary legend Richard Leacock turned on the television one morning in 1972 and saw an announcement for The Candidate, a film starring Robert Redford about the US Senate election. To Leacock's amazement, he knew the scene like the back of his hand. He was copied directly from the documentary Campaign Manager (1964) in which he followed the campaign manager of the Republican presidential candidate with DA Pennebaker. In The Candidate, the scene tends to underpowered slapstick. But why is the same scene in Campaign Manager so hilarious and exciting?
