Homogeneous, Empty Time plot
"Governing the country is for soldiers, not ordinary citizens." It is a sentiment that recurs several times in this documentary, which takes its title from a concept by the German Jewish philosopher Walter Benjamin: nationalist ideologies invariably arise from 'emptiness' in an area where people share a 'homogeneous consciousness'. With this idea as a starting point, the film examines, without commentary and observation, the causes behind the resurgence of nationalism in Thailand. Different groups are followed, from military cadets to Buddhists, Muslims and students of a Christian boarding school. They think differently about many things, but what unites them is a boundless trust in the monarchy.
