Homo Sapiens plot

Abandoned buildings, dilapidated ruins, cities that have been overgrown by nature, crumbling roads: all places that were once man-made, but now lie abandoned. They are gradually returned to nature. With images that are breathtakingly beautiful and disturbing at the same time, 'Homo Sapiens' is a film about the finiteness and fragility of human existence. What will be left of our lives when we are no more? And is it comforting that the world would continue to exist even long after man is gone.

It takes some getting used to at first, but after a while this turns out to be an impressive film.

If I were the director, I would have done more with the sound; more bombast and louder especially...

Experimental collage of static shots (without commentary or music) of places where Homo Sapiens left its mark. The question arises what the world would look like if humanity no longer existed. The beautiful sound design makes it clear that life continues (or returns) where people disappear. It wouldn't have taken 90 minutes to make that point, but the concept is fascinating and the composition is excellent. Nevertheless, a film that is best enjoyed on a big screen and with optimum - in other words: in a movie theater.
